CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa ? The 13th-ranked Mount Mercy women?s basketball team played its final regular season home game on Saturday, sending its seven seniors out in style with an 83-66 victory over AIB in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at Hennessey Recreation Center.
After an early 5-0 deficit, the Mustangs dominated the contest and led, 42-29, at intermission. Mount Mercy led by as many as 22 in the second half and cruised to their sixth straight win. The Mustangs improved to 21-7 overall and 13-3 in the MCC, their third 20-win season in the past four years.
Mount Mercy?s seniors combined for 66 points on Saturday. Laura Lippert poured in a game-high 20 points, while Micha Mims added 17 points and eight rebounds. Emily Greiner joined them in double figures with 16 points. Bria Fields chipped in six points off the bench, Mackenzie Skay had four points and four boards and Becca Lampe scored three points. The Mustangs? other senior, Ashley Koch, did not play due to a knee injury.
Ashley Vratny scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Eagles (12-16, 5-11 MCC). Morgan Hansen tallied 17 points and five boards, Hannah Redenius 10 points and six rebounds.
Mount Mercy, currently alone in second place in the MCC, wraps up the regular season with two crucial road games next week. The Mustangs have a one-game lead on Iowa Wesleyan (16-9, 12-4 MCC) and face the Tigers on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Ruble Arena in Mount Pleasant. Iowa Wesleyan knocked off Mount Mercy, 67-51, on Jan. 13 in Cedar Rapids.
