Although I do not know state Sen. Paula Dockery [R-Lakeland] personally, I have closely followed her service to Polk County and the state of Florida in the House and Senate. She has served her constituents with intelligence, determination and commitment.

How appropriate that she gave her farewell speech on the first day of Women?s History Month.

Ms. Dockery has always voted her conscience, while being both ethical and collegial. The latter being a trait that seems to be missing in today?s politics.

My only disappointment is that she is not a Democrat.

Whatever the next chapter in her life, may she walk with boldness and confidence.
