EMMA is offering two non-paid internships at the Secretariat?s offices in Brussels for 3-6 months (a small allowance for transport and food will be paid):
- European Legal Affairs internship beginning mid / end of?August (deadline for applications 3 August 2012)
- Communication internship beginning 1st of October (deadline for applications 20 August 2012).
These internships will be of benefit particularly for anyone who seeks professional experience related to lobbying and communication in a European, membership-based organisation.
European Legal Affairs internship
Duties:
The internship offers the possibility to learn about the work of EMMA, especially its advocacy and communication actions in Brussels. It consists of support and assistance in the following areas:
- Monitor legislative and non-legislative activity, detect key issues and analyse its impact on the European magazine publishing industry
- Supporting EMMA?s public affairs work
- Research and background work to support the overall activities of EMMA
- Support EMMA?s administration and organisational work, such as preparing meetings with EMMA members
Requirements:
- Knowledge of the EU Institutions, including decision-making procedures, as well as EU law
- An excellent team-player, with an interest in media policy in the EU context
- Excellent English language skills and very good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database).
- Self-motivated, well organized and able to work efficiently

Communication internship
Duties:
The internship offers the possibility to learn about the work of EMMA, especially its advocacy and communication actions in Brussels.
It consists of support and assistance in the following areas:
- Monitoring news and the activities of EU institutions and compiling weekly news updates and ad-hoc research
- Set up of EU workshops with media executives and journalists (DG Sanco Seminar)
- Play a leading role in realising the next issue of EMMA?s flagship publication (EMMA Magazine)
- Supporting EMMA?s events with key politicians, seminars, receptions at the European Parliament, ?
- Supporting EMMA?s administration and organisational work, such as preparing meetings with EMMA members
- Updating and developing the EMMA websites and other media tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter,?
- Expanding EMMA?s sponsor relations
- Support of the Communication Officer in developing and implementing new communication activities and projects
Qualifications:
- The person should be an excellent team-player and be interested in media policy in the EU context
- Knowledge of EU policies and institutions an advantage
- Candidate should have excellent English language skills and very good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database)
- The candidate should be self-motivated, well organized, able to work efficiently and autonomously, as part of a small team is essential
- Feeling fully comfortable with new media and information technology applications

COMPULSORY CONDITION:
EMMA internships are only open to candidates registered in a University/school/institute, as a contract must be signed between EMMA and the student?s home university. Please note that this is a compulsory condition; applications that do not match this criterion will not be short listed.
